This Week in iPad http://thisweekin.com/thisweekin-ipad/
The iPad Show http://www.ipadshow.com/
I begin this latest update with three excellent weekly video podcasts for anyone lucky enough (like me!) to own an iPad. The first is from the TWiT network of podcasts and is called iPad Today - a new edition is recorded live every Thursday night at 9.30pm UK time and features discussion on the current iPad topics as well as app and game reviews, like the other podcasts I’m about to mention it’s an entertaining and professional show and worth a watch each week, the average running time for each edition is about an hour.
The next iPad video podcast comes from the ‘This Week In’ network which, as you can see from the photos above features a variety of weekly video shows on a variety of topics, ‘This Week in iPad’ is also recorded live every Friday morning at 1am UK time (in case you were wondering all three shows are recorded live in the USA) and again features iPad news, discussion and reviews of all the latest games and apps for Apple’s tablet - average running time for each show about 30-40 minutes.
And finally there’s ‘The iPad Show’ recorded live each Sunday evening at 8.30pm UK time, it’s slightly more rough round the edges than the other two but it’s still a fun and entertaining look at iPad news and reviews - average running time about 50 minutes.
If you’re an iPad owner keen on getting the best apps and games, these three shows should be on your regular weekly viewing list.
Life of Android
If you own an Android smartphone it can sometimes be a bit bewildering deciding which are the best apps and games to download for it, well an excellent site called Life of Android is here to help. There are many sites reviewing Android apps and games but this is by far the best I’ve seen. It features thorough reviews of the latest apps and games complete with ratings, as well as Android news, video reviews and tutorials. If you are thinking of getting an Android phone or already own one, this is a site well worth a visit and a firm favourite of mine.
Simpsons Wiki http://simpsons.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
NCIS Wiki http://ncis.wikia.com/wiki/NCIS_Database
These two Wikipedia-style websites will be of particular interest to fans of ‘The Simpsons’ and NCIS, they are both very nicely designed and feature a real wealth of information about both shows such as character profiles, full and very comprehensive episode guides and a whole lot more besides, if you’re a fan of either (or both) shows and want to know more about them these two sites are essential.
Filmflow - http://www.filmflow.tv
Just the one site in this update but it will be of interest to those who enjoy watching films on tv, it’s called Filmflow and basically upon loading the site you can register for a free log-in (or log-in via Facebook). You then select which channels you require and the site then displays, hour by hour which films are on which channels and when, a very useful service for planning your tv film watching. There is also an excellent mobile site available at http://filmflow.tv/m
Grooveshark - http://listen.grooveshark.com
Firstly in this update a free streaming music website. There can’t be many people now who’ve not heard of the excellent streaming music software, Spotify, but I’ve discovered another, and in my opinion, even better streaming music service called Grooveshark. This firstly has the edge over Spotify by the fact that it’s all accessed via a website, no additional software downloads are required. It features unlimited streaming of songs with thousands to choose from, and the songs begin streaming quickly and in excellent quality. You can also make tracks your favourites, create playlists and upload music for other users to enjoy.
It does carry an advert down the right hand side of the page but this is not too intrusive. It is possible for a small monthly fee to upgrade to a VIP account which removes the advert.
A truly amazing service and one which definitely gives Spotify a run for it’s money, why not try both and see which one you prefer?
Electric Pig - http://www.electricpig.co.uk
There are many websites around offering gadget and technology news and reviews but one of the best and one of my favourites is Electric Pig. It bills itself as ‘the only tech you need’ - an accurate description. The site features a comprehensive reviews section sorted by category, videos, the latest news, top 5 lists and you can also follow them via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. An iPhone app is also available.
Mashable - http://mashable.com
I am a keen user of social networking sites and an excellent way of keeping up with developments relating to them is via a website called Mashable which features all the latest news as well as excellent downloadable Facebook and Twitter guidebooks for the new user. The site also has mobile apps for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android, a very active Twitter feed an e-mail newsletter to subscribe to.
Programme Master - http://www.programmemaster.com
One for the football fan - when I go to a football match I always must buy the matchday programme but what if you can’t go every week? Well a site called Programme Master has the answer! It sells the official matchday programmes for all the Premier League clubs, selected NPower Championship clubs and also for some Champions League games too. The prices are very reasonable, delivery is quick and it’s also possible at the start of the season to take out a full season subscription for your chosen club to be sent all the home match programmes for every game. They are currently offering half-season subscriptions beginning on 1st January 2011 till the end of the season. A great site and a great idea.
Railway Herald - http://www.railwayherald.com
I’ve been interested in railways since I was a small boy and enjoy reading such magazines as RAIL and Railway Magazine but have now discovered, amazingly, a free WEEKLY electronic railway magazine! It’s called Railway Herald, is published every Monday and is easily as good as the printed magazines. Each issue averages a very respectable 28 pages (although some contain more) and firstly features some really excellent quality photos, the week’s railway news, the news in pictures, a section for railtours, preservation, finishing off with a weekly pictorial and an events diary. This is one of the best online magazines I’ve seen for a very long time, it’s truly fantastic, can’t really believe something this good can be free, if you’re a railway enthusiast, you must read this every week! Brilliant!
Nintendo Life - http://www.nintendolife.com
Giant Bomb - http://www.giantbomb.com
A couple of rather good videogame related websites for you now, the first will be of interest to anyone who’s a fan of Nintendo, it’s called Nintendo Life and is an excellent resource for owners of Nintendo machines, it’s split into sections across the top of the page : 3DS, Wii, DS, WiiWare, DSWare, Virtual Console and Retro. It’s a really great looking and comprehensive site featuring reviews of the latest games, news, features, guides, and a forum for you to air your views! A must-visit for the avid Nintendo fan.
The next site is called Giant Bomb and describes itself as ‘the world’s largest editable video game database’ - kind of like Wikipedia but for videogames. You can submit reviews, videos, guides and there is also a podcast and a forum. A site packed with loads of interesting content and an essential bookmark.
